By its theoretical definition, parenting refers to raising children and making them able to lead their own lives in the world. However, in a practical sense, it is so much more than that. Parenting is one of the most rewarding and difficult journeys that a person can experience. Parents always feel immense joy when they realize that they have a mini version of themselves that trust them completely, but they also have a sense of fear when they realize that they are responsible for another living being and their ideologies and the way they show the world to their children is how they will perceive them for a long time. Parenting is a roller coaster of emotions for anyone who goes through them. There is no correct or wrong way to parent a child. However, there are some things parents must remember while raising a child.

What makes parenting rewarding?

A child is said to be a person’s best friend and confidant. After your own parents and spouse, it is your children that make up for the family. Parents all over the world claim that they able to kill and die for their own children. A parent’s love is considered to be the most selfless one. In fact for a very long time and almost 18-20 years of a child’s life th,ey consider their parents to be better than God in many aspects. Kids blindly trust their parents and believe that the world does not exist outside of them. When, as an adult, you are responsible for entire living beings and for molding their thoughts and ideologies, it is very easy to go wrong or give them issues that they might carry with them for. No parent intentionally tries to ruin their children or give them issues. However, many times they themselves have unresolved issues that may pass on to their children and this is how generational curses and toxic cycles are formed. If you are a parent to a child, especially one whose in an impressionable age, you must remember the following things.

  • Do not project your problems and issues on to your children. Your child is supposed to come to you with their problems, not the other way around.
  • Always try and understand your child’s point of view on matters, especially those of importance. Never try and impose your views on them and expect them to blindly follow.
  • Never discuss your child’s shortcomings or what they tell you in confidence, in public or with your own family. Members.

This is only the beginning of the list and not the summary of it. While raising a child or children there are multiple things one must remember. How parents treat their own children from a young and impressionable age decides how their bond with them would be when the children are older.
